Posts not appearing in WordPress Reader

Hello, I have an issue in that my posts are not appearing for me (or anyone else) in the WordPress reader!

I use jetpack and custom post types, so I don’t know if that is interfering. Any help would be appreciated!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

If I compare your site to its Reader feed at https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/100705637, I can see your most recent posts, the two most recent ones titled “April Wrap-Up” and “Issue With Post Notifications”

Can you give a link to a specific post you published recently that’s not appearing in that feed?

I use jetpack and custom post types

The Reader only displays posts that appear in your site’s main posts feed. Custom post types that do not appear in the site’s feed, like testimonials and portfolio projects, will not appear in the Reader.

All of them are not appearing in wordpress.com/reader. I can’t see them, neither can my followers.

So you’re saying since I’m using CPT UI, those posts are not appearing?

This is the feed that appears for me when I search and follow my blog:

  • Hey there,

So you’re saying since I’m using CPT UI, those posts are not appearing?

Correct, custom post types such as testimonials and portfolios aren’t like standard posts that you will find in a blog that is periodically updated, so they will not show up in the Reader. More information on custom post types and their functionality here:

    https://wordpress.com/support/custom-post-types/

The CPT UI Plugin is used for organizing your custom post types and doesn’t assist in the posts in being available in the Reader.

As @kokkieh mentioned, your normal blog posts are appearing in the Reader without issue.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

    Thanks,

I hate to mention it, but in the link that was given to me for my feed…those are custom post types. They’re appearing in that feed. Just not in the one I linked. So clearly, a different issue is going on, not custom post type related. This link: https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/100705637 he posted shows all my custom post type posts.

    Mine does not.

Also, instead of letting people follow right after they follow it kicks them out with an error.

  • Yes, after looking thoroughly into this issue, there is indeed something bigger going on here.

So, it appears that somehow you have two feeds:

    – The feed that we provided (https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/100705637) is currently connected to your account, it only has 3 subscribers connected to it, but, there is where all of your current post feeds are going.

    – The feed that you provided (https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/100230470) is not connected to your account, has 77 subscribers, and is not receiving any updates to your Reader whenever you publish a new post. So, only three of your combined 80 subscribers are receiving your recently published posts at the moment.

Did you ever disconnect and then reconnect your Jetpack plugin to your WordPress.com account? Or, did you have a staging site at one point connected to WordPress.com? I am now looking into combining the feeds so that your followers will be able to see your posts in their feed, but please let me know if you have done either of the things mentioned above. Thanks!

Yes to both. I had a .com before I went self hosted. Yes, jetpack had me disconnect my account as the likes were not appearing right. That didn’t fix it, but apparently it broke the feeds instead.

    Thank you very much!

  • We’ve reported this to our developers to look at. We’ll let you know what they say.

So you’re saying since I’m using CPT UI, those posts are not appearing?

What I said was that the Reader only displays posts that appear in your site’s main posts feed. Custom post types that do not appear in the site’s feed, will not appear in the Reader. In this case your custom post types do appear in the site’s posts feed, so they should also appear in the Reader.

The fact that the feed at https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/100230470 is completely blank, so not even displaying the three standard WordPress posts that exist on your site (according to Jetpack), points to this not being an issue with custom post types.

  • It took a while, but this should be fixed now.
