Premium vs wordpress.org questions

  I have a series of questions as I just upgraded to premium & I want to be able to refund if I need to install WordPress on my site:

  1. Can I use a third-party theme.
  2. I am searching for custom header options in the theme advanced search, yet none of them seem to have the option as you describe in the help section.
  3. I am not a writer, I want a web site. Column1 is a constant menu. Column 3 will change a couple of time on the site. Column 2 needs to be be news (not a blog post). I do not want replies …read-only. I see news apps for WordPress, but I do not see any on your site. Can I use any of these third-party apps?
  4. I use Simple Machine forum. Will their Widgets work with your premium, or do I need to install my own version?

  Hi Dan, let me answer you questions.

  1. Can I use a third-party theme.

  You can use any of the themes in our directory:

  http://theme.wordpress.com/

  It’s not possible to install a theme from elsewhere.

  2. I am searching for custom header options in the theme advanced search, yet none of them seem to have the option as you describe in the help section.

  Is this what you’re referring to?

  The vast majority of our themes allow you to upload your own custom header graphic. Could you please let me know specifically what you’re trying to do and which theme you’re looking at?

  It depends specifically what you’re referring to. Would you mind linking to one so I can take a look?

  We do have an RSS widget that you could use to pull in a news feed from elsewhere.

  Could you provide me with their sample widget code so I can take a look? You can paste it in a Pastebin and link to it from here. You can read more here about the types of code we allow in posts, pages, and widgets.

  Thanks for the link. That user integration mod is not compatible with WordPress.com – it’s meant for self-hosted WordPress installations only.
