PRIVACY SETTING?????

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi I’d REALLY appreciate some help. I’ve spent the last half hour trying to find the privacy setting in my website dashboard, to change my site from private to public. Instead, the instructions I keep finding that keep telling you to go to Settings – Privacy – just take me to a page that tells me how to set my privacy policy. I’m about to lose it here. Please can someone advise.

    Thanks.

Hi there, it’s on the “Manage” section, you need to display that drop menu and under “Settings” you’ll find the site profile to change the favicon and such, below that you’ll find what you’re looking for.

    Thanks for the reply.
But I do not have that section.

Also, I am trying to make it go public from my hosted domain. NOT the wordpress site itself. When I login to that I can see the Manage section you are referring to – and it IS set to public, but still – the shapely default theme is what shows and not my design that I have put there instead.

There is no such option under Reading, or Privacy from my main dashboard. I do not want my website public that has WordPress in the URL, just the one I have bought the domain for and used WordPress to design it.

Thanks in advance for anyone who is able to point me in the right direction.

What is the URL of your website because your account is only a few hours old but doesn’t have a website running on the wordpress.com platform.

Thanks. But it’s not for that account. I am not running my website from wordpress platform, it’s hosted elsewhere.

    Thanks anyway.

  • Hi there,

The open source WordPress software you’re using does not have a setting to make the entire site private. That is a feature specific to WordPress.com.

To set your site to private you’ll need to use a plugin like WP Maintenance Mode, or similar. You can search for available plugins at https://wordpress.org/plugins/
