Probemls after Ionos outage
-
Hi, I have been trying to regain access to one of our club’s two websites after an Ionos outage on 8th July 2026.
I restored all files from backup to Ionos server, and one website is OK, but the other isn’t. I’m not really sure why, as it’s been working fine for over 8 years, and I’ve restored the files from backup a couple of times before without problem.
It may have been related to Wordfence, so I disabled the Wordfence folder on Ionos server. I was then able to access WordPress login page. However, I now realise that I entered an incorrect website name during login, and that has created a vanilla website, which Ionos is now pointed at. Ionos have tried restoring to dates before the outage, but they’ve made no difference.
How do I safely delete the ‘new’ website that I appear to have created accidentally. I don’t want to affect any of the files on the original website, which I hope can be re-acccesed by Ionos server.

We can’t help as that site isn’t running on the wordpress.com platform but is hosted elsewhere. You must contact Ionos support.

Ionos have done a restore, but it’s not pointing to the original website, because I created a new one accidentally. I need to delete the new one via WordPress, somehow.
-
You can’t delete a site via wordpress, you must do so through your hosting which is at Ionos.
-
Well, I can delete all the files on Ionos server, but how did I manage to create a new site with a similar name on WordPress, by logging into WordPress?

This is WordPress.com. What is the URL of your “new” site? If you have been “logging into WordPress” (ie accessing this particular account here, are you sure you haven’t just created a new free site here which has nothing to do with your original site over there at Ionos.

Yes, I think that’s how it seems to me. The url is http://www.eghambeerfestival.co.uk
When I tried to log in, I was asked for the website name, and I mistakenly used the name ‘Egham Beer Festival’, instead of ‘Egham Beer and Cider Festival’. This seemed to create a new blank website, which I’ve been using temporarily. However, I want to delete that, and reconnect with the original website which has the same url.

As already stated, the old site and your new site are both registered an hosted by Ionos – https://wordpress.com/site-profiler/https://eghambeerfestival.co.uk – so we can’t help at all.
And as I already said, only Ionos support is able to help you

No you certainly didn’t create a site over here! You bought the domain and hosting from Ionos and wordpress.com has nothing to do with Ionos!
Again: only Ionos support can help you to sort things out.
