Problem with author invitation

    I have the following problem:

    I invited a student of mine to join the blog we keep in class as an “author”.
    He “accepted” the invitation, but for some reason when he goes to the blog, it does not give him “author” privilages.
    I am the administrator myself. I looked the “users” for the blog and he does not appear there.
    I tried sending him an invitation again, but it says that the user already has a role in the website.
    Any help?
