problem with the custom HTML block in the block editor
-
So I’ve been recently having an issue with the custom HTML block in the block editor. For ages I had no issue then within the last couple of months whenever I try to use the custom HTML block to embed an Instagram image or a widget, or an affiliate ad I get an error saying either ‘publish failed’ or ‘invalid JSON response’. On older posts where I already have a custom HTML block with one of the aforementioned things I can no longer update the post without getting either an ‘update failed’ or ‘invalid JSON response’. I tried everything within this post: https://passionwp.com/response-is-not-a-valid-json-response-error/#:~:text=Before%20you%20try%20anything%20else,Now%20try%20updating%20a%20page
I also contacted my hosting provider. They assured me it wasn’t a server issue and they spent a decent amount of time looking into the issue but couldn’t find a solution.
How do I fix this or is it a known problem without a solution currently?

Hi there,
We can’t help directly because we don’t host nomadicinscriptions.com on our WordPress.com managed hosting. As a result, we can’t take a closer look at your site.
Instead your host (Bluehost) uses the open-source variant of the WordPress platform which functions differently than what we offer here on WordPress.com. Specifically we don’t allow HTML embeds on WordPress.com by default, so we would not know how to troubleshoot this issue.
The good news is that help is available here at the open-source WordPress forums: https://wordpress.org/support/forum/how-to-and-troubleshooting/
The folks in the open-source forums are more familiar with these kinds of issues and are in the best position to help. Thanks!
