Problems with VideoPress

  Hi

  I have 3 videos uploaded. These are the urls you have provided:

  http://newobs.files.wordpress.com/2012/08/assange1.mpg
  http://newobs.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/schostak.mp4
  https://newobs.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/behind-the-lyrics-photo-jpeg-master.mp4

  The only one that actually is served correctly is the last one. IE and Chrome consistently won’t play the first two. Chrome starts to download the files but stops after a while.

  I notice the https:// protocol on the one that works and wonder if this isn’t to do with it? i have tried https:// on the others though and that hasn’t helped.

  Please advise why these files aren’t working.

  To answer myself; it looks like it may be a codec problem. I have just read what you actually say, the MP4 file urls are for the

  original uploaded file

  So, that means I have to get the codecs right – matching my type attribute in an html5 video element and that is probably where I have gone wrong.

  I *think* that will resolve this question; not yet tested though.

  This is the https://newobs.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/behind-the-lyrics-photo-jpeg-master.mp4 one:

  In both cases in my wordpress.com account I have a link to the original MP4 and an ogg file.

  In the case of the test-video-post Chrome plays the OGG one and in the case of the music-video one it plays the MP4 one. Chrome will play an MP4 if it can.

  Both videos are embedded using the html5 video element.

  If you watch what is happening in the Net tab of Chrome developer tools in the case of the test-video-post one you can see it trying to download the MP4, stopping, and then trying the OGG.

  As I say I think this is almost certainly because the compression codec of the MP4 on the test-video-post page is not correct and it is nothing to do with your server as I first thought. So I just include this for interest.

  By the way though MacManx – do you happen to know if the OGG file provided (with a direct link) is always in Standard size? It seems to be

  Both actually seem to be playing just fine for me in Firefox and Chrome, but I do see Chrome going for the OGG file instead on the test video.

  You might want to try re-uploading it, since we should have correctly transcoded the MP4 anyway.

  As for OGG, it’s always transcoded to the standard size.
