Problems with width of tiled gallery and single photos
-
Hello everybody,
I have got some problems with properly displaying tiled galleries and single photographs on my blog foodview.wordpress.com: sometimes the width of the galleries and the pics fill te width of the posts / the pages and sometimes they fill only part of it (they stick to the left side then which doesn’t look very pretty).
I contacted the German support forum already and they gave me the advice to get in touch with the technical support (which I hereby do). My theme is confit, I have Custom CSS upgrade and I changed the gallery width to 100 % already without success. The problem occurs not always, but regularly (what makes it even more difficult to find the error), both in chrome and firefox. I asked friends and to check my blog from time to time and they make the same experience, sometimes everything is fine and sometimes not. I cleared cache and cookies, so this doesn’t seem to be the problem as well.
Just in case the problem doesn’t occur when you get on my blog, I made a screenshot to demonstrate the problem (the text in the screen shot is full width, but not the gallery on the bottom of the page): http://foodviewberlin.files.wordpress.com/2013/04/beispiel.jpg
Does anybody have an idea what could be the problem?I appreciate any advice.
Thanks for helping and best

Hi Claudia, intermittent issues can definitely be tricky to track down.
The screenshot is useful, and I’ve brought this to our developers so they can have a look. I’ll keep you posted here.

You’re welcome. It’s on our developers’ radar and I’ll let you know here as soon as I have any news.

I just wanted to let you know that our developers have looked into this issue but unfortunately they weren’t able to replicate the issue with your tiled galleries.
If you’re able to somehow narrow down the circumstances under which the galleries become squished, please let me know and I’ll add it to our bug ticket. Thanks for your help.

Thank you for your answer, Kathryn.
I observed the effect for quite some time but it is totally random when the problems appear and when they don’t (at least I could not figure out a pattern). I have reset the post width meanwhile to avoid the effect but I am not very happy with this solution as – besides galleries – also single photographs are crucial for my blog and they don’t look that nice within the small post width. I would therefore be very happy if someone could find the bug (or could give me a hint whether this is a problem with the theme or with WordPress galleries in general).
Thank you and best

Could you let me know in more detail about what you mean by this exactly? What was the post width before, when the intermittent “squishing” occurred? Where exactly did you make the change?

We’d love to be able to solve this for you, but since we haven’t had any other reports of this issue as far as we know, it’s difficult to tell where the problem lies.

Thanks for getting back to this, Kathryn. The normal post width of the confit theme is 1.600px and I had chosen to enlarge this. I had first made these changes by using the preset fields and then (as I thought these fields might not work properly) directly within the css ( I have an css upgrade). But I have set back to 1.600 meanwhile.
Best,

Thanks for the new information, I’ve added it to your case.
Do let me know if you see the gallery being squished again, even at the default Confit width.

Hi Claudia, I know it’s been a while since you first wrote to us, but I wanted to let you know something one of our developers passed along that may solve your problem.
You mentioned that you’d widened the width of your layout to something greater than the default, 1600 px. If you do that again, you’ll need to set the Content Width to match, so that the media that uses that value – including tiled galleries – apply it. So for example, let’s say you set your width to 2000 px. Be sure to set the Content Width to 2000 px too.
You can set the Content Width under Customize > CSS:
