Profootballtalk, comments that don't violate any rules keep getting deleted.

  • Unknown's avatar

Comments that don’t violate the rules get deleted, over and over again. Repeatedly enough that it’s clearly not just “oops it was deleted by mistake”. What gives?

    Example: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2016/09/19/baby-gronk-works-out-for-patriots/

I posted the same comment, waited for it to disappear, posted it again, waited for it to disappear, posted it a 3rd time and THIS time it showed up! Do the admins just not like how many times I’ve had to complain about their arbitrarily enforcing the rules?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi,

Any comment on a WordPress.com site may be held for moderation indefinitely. There is no requirement that any comment be published immediately, or ever, and WordPress.com is not responsible for the policies that Profootballtalk has regarding the publishing of comments. The site’s Contact page, has a technical support link.

So was it blocked by ProFootBallTalk or WordPress?

Since I’m a volunteer, and lacking access to the administrative areas of WordPress.com sites and other information which might be available to WP.com staff members, I don’t know whether your posts were blocked at all. Depending upon the Profootballtalk’s comment settings at Discussion Settings (see the Discussion Settings support page) it could be that every new comment is held for moderation, or that a each comment by a comment author without a previously approved comment will be held for moderation (see the “Before a Comment Appears” section of the support page).

I’d suggest that your first step be to contact Profootballtalk via the link I provided above, submitting your questions to them. You may call for WordPress.com staff attention to this topic by adding a “modlook” tag to the sidebar (of this topic).

The disappearance of a new comment shortly after you post it is not necessarily unusual. Depending upon the site’s comment settings, new comments might remain visible to the comment author for a minute, two minutes, etc., allowing for editing, before it “disappears” into comment moderation. How long a comment remains in moderation may be dependent upon numerous factors, and would be another question to submit to Profootballtalk rather than to WordPress.com.

I’ve submitted to them before, never gotten a response. That link takes you to a contact screen where all the links go to the same person: Mike Florio, the owner of PFT. He doesn’t actually reply, as you’d imagine. They used to have a ticket submission system but there doesn’t seem to be a way to access it any more.

I am familiar with their usual posting process: a new comment shows up for the poster immediately, some time later it either is approved and appears for everyone or rejected and disappears from the poster as well.

…some time later it either is approved and appears for everyone or rejected and disappears from the poster as well.

So it was definitely rejected. I hadn’t been aware of their usual posting process until reading your description in the previous post.

They used to have a ticket submission system but there doesn’t seem to be a way to access it any more.

I hadn’t noticed that the technical support email address was the same as that for the Mike Florio link. If I were in your position and couldn’t find a support email address or number on the site, and I haven’t found either, I would do a Google search to see if I might come up with alternative to the one given at the Contact page. Outside of that I’ve no suggestions to offer.

You may, as I said, call for staff attention, but for privacy reasons staff will be unable to provide you with any other contact information they might have.

There may be some other explanation which I haven’t thought of, so I wouldn’t discourage you from asking staff if they might have an idea why your comments aren’t being published on that site.
