  I was wondering whether WordPress has any type of charity grant scheme, for example any promotional support as a gift in kind?

  No. We all pay the same for all upgrades and we are all treated the same.

  P.S. Do note that our free blogs are hosted free of charge. There are many free features available to us and not a single upgrade is required to found and maintain a successful blog.
