Publicize

Hi, can you help a newbie, please?
I’m trying to build a site where there will be a number of contributors adding posts. I’m looking to link the site to FB etc but want the individuals to positively choose which social media page the post goes to, rather than it being automatically uploaded to all. In fact there will be some posts that will only be for members and therefore should not be publicized to social media.
I’m aware that with Jetpack you can edit the post and not publicize but I’d like the contributors to have to opt-in rather than have to remember to opt out and possibly accidentally put something on social media that is only intended for website members.
    Is this possible?
Any help would be gratefully received.

  • Hi there,

When you connect a new Facebook page to a site you will have the option to make that connection available to all authors on a site, or only for the WordPress.com account that’s being used to make the connection.

But there’s no way to force opt-in for sharing. The editor should always remember someone’s last-used setting the next time they publish a post, so if someone published a post with Facebook sharing for a particular page enabled, the next post they publish that option will be enabled automatically.

For your use case it might be safer to forego Publicize and share posts manually as needed, or else to use a third party service like Buffer to handle the social media sharing aspect for you.
