Purchased WordPress website through GoDaddy – need to switch to BUILD!

  • Unknown's avatar

Hey – I’m having a nightmare, please can you help anyone!

I purchased a package with GoDaddy for a WordPress website which included a domain name and hosting with them for 3 years, and a free website builder for a month.

Now that website builder has expired, I need to either pay £150 with them to renew the builder (when I’m only a few days away from my site being ready for market!) or transfer to my site to WordPress – where the GoDaddy advisor told me I could build for free as I’d already paid for the WordPress managing as part of my package.

I have no idea how to do this though?! Has anyone else had this problem?? I just don’t want all my hard work I’ve put into my site to be lost or have to shell out another £150 for a few days editing.

    Thank you
    Rebecca

  • Hi there,

The hosting package you bought from GoDaddy is for the self-hosted WordPress.org software, which is something completely separate and different from WordPress.com. For help setting up a self-hosted WordPress site with GoDaddy, please ask in the WordPress.org forums instead:

    https://wordpress.org/support/

You’ll also find many tutorials online, on Youtube and sites like wpbeginner.com on how to get started building a self-hosted WordPress site.

Be prepared to have to re-do at least some of what you’ve already done, though, as there will likely be some compatibility issues between GoDaddy’s website builder and the WordPress software, so you might not be able to transfer over everything you’ve done so far.
