Question Re email account on existing Domain
-
first of all, thank you for any kind of help and advice.
i would like to either transfer or map existing domain to WordPress for the website i would like to build, but my concern is how this will affect the emails/email account on the domain.
my existing domain is registered through Telstra, which is currently pointing to Microsoft365, Telstra’s advice is to use aname records to avoid downtime of email after mapping the domain to WordPress, which is beyond my knowledge and it does not seems WordPress gives that option.
could anyone plz give the adivce, in order to minimise the influence upon my existing email accounts on the domain,
1. if i transfer the domain or map the domain, if this makes any difference; and
2. after transferring or mapping, what needs to be done at my end to bring email account back on line asap; and
3. what is the possibility that the old emails will get lost.Thank you in advance!!!!

Hi there,
To map your domain using A records you need to use these IP addresses:
192.0.78.24
192.0.78.25
These IPs can change over time, at which point your domain will stop working.
Should that happen, please contact us again for the new IPs.

Thank you!
to use aname records, do i set up the website first and then provide the IPs to Telstra (my domain registrat), but does the IPs change often? my concern is the emails on the domain.
if i map the domain from Telstra (our current registrar) to WordPress, my understanding is that our email will be down and when our email can go back online depends upon the server of WordPress? Do i need to reset anything through my WordPress account to allow our Micrsoft365 email account to work again?
sorry silly questions

You just need to create a WordPress.com website (not necessarily populated with content) and upgrade to one of our plans in order to use the mapping feature. You can read more about it here:

No. They do not change that often. If they do, you can contact us and we’ll provide you the new ones.

The reason your registrar asks you for A records is to not have any downtime during the mapping process. I don’t know how your registrar has set up your email account, but I don’t believe you’ll need to configure anything on our end other than enabling the mapping upgrade.
If you have any other questions, just let me know and I’ll be happy to help.
