questions for limiting access to certain pages
-
A non -profit group I am in is interested in startng a blog style website but needs to have a members only section so things like meeting mintues and budgets are not open to the general public. While things like group activities, photos, and how to join information readily available to non-members.
Is that something that can be done with a wordpress site? I already have a blog here and dont want to start over with another site if I dont have to.

Try a password-protected page: http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/page-visibility/
I actually do the same thing for the very same reason on one of my own.

Ok that works, but is there a way to make a post that is a child of a proctected page and only accessible if you have signed into the protected page? Right now the only way I see to do that is to make another page a child of the protected page, but it isnt protected…each page has to be protected individually.

No, pages are a form of content, so they cannot contain posts.
Since each page would have to be protected individually, I typically recommend just keeping everything on one page.
