Random overseas traffic
-
Hi there,
Could you shed some light on a recent increase in our website views from random locations overseas.
I noticed a couple of referrer links from a site called Semalt a few days ago and stupidly signed up to try and find out what it was, I have a feeling it might be something to do with this as it just looks like spam links coming from proxy servers or something.
Can you help?
Many thanks!

Semalt is spam for sure.
Here is a thread that will fill you in on spam referrers:

Please let me know if you have further questions or if anything is unclear.

Thank you for getting back to me rootjosh.
Yes I highlighted it as spam as soon as I realised, but I’m still getting this really odd traffic from all over the world. Is there anything I can do to stop this as it’s throwing my traffic reports off??
Thank you!

The spam reports are the best method of getting junk referrers thrown “off the bus”. It is a group effort among WordPress.com users that really lets us hone in on what the real spammers are, as opposed to just some unexpected traffic from somewhere unusual.
