Random people being added as 'new user registration' on my account

  I am new to wordpress and am concerned that I have 8 new user registration emails on my account from people I do not even know. They all appear to have yahoo accounts. How do I delete them from my account. How are they getting to register as a user on my wordpress account?

  To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities: http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
