Read More tag
-
I published my first post earlier today. After doing some playing around to get things looking how I want I’ve stumbled across the ‘Read More’ feature. Exactly what I wanted. The problem is once I insert it into the post and publish it, it hides the extract that it’s supposed to display. I’m guessing it’s an HTML issue as I’m new to it. Can anyone help?

Hi there,
I only see one published post on your site and it doesn’t appear to be using the more tag. Did you remove it again?
To use the tag, position the cursor at the end of the section you want to appear in the posts list, and press Enter to create a new line. Then add the more-tag, on it’s own line after the excerpt. If you want an image in the excerpt, make sure it also appears above the more-tag.
Note that the more tag will also influence whether subscription emails will contain the full post or just the excerpt.
With your theme you also have the option to use automatic excerpts. Click on My Sites, then click the Customize button next to Themes. Then click on Content Options. You can set your site to display automatic excerpts on the blog page there.

I have fixed the issue, thank you.
I was putting the more tag in a different location. Once I moved it, the text was smaller than intended and everytime I updated the size using ‘+2’ it disappeared again. From there I switched to using ‘large’ and now it’s exactly how I wanted it.
The more you know…
Thanks again.

Ah, okay. The more-tag can have unexpected effects on HTML, yes. In particular, always make sure not to add it inside another HTML tag, but I see that’s how you have it now.
Thanks for letting me know you got it working the way you want.
