Recent images broken and I can’t upload images

Every time I try to upload an image, I get a “Missing a temporary folder” error. I’ve tried this on both the desktop client as well as through a browser like Firefox. The site is hosted on WordPress.com. Recent images that I’ve uploaded over the past few days are also broken (returning a 404 error). Despite being a paid user, I’ve been trying to get in contact with a human agent for the past few hours to no avail. There are also no email correspondence in my junk folder or anything. I need help resolving this issue.

Other issues that have seen come up:

I can’t make any edits to posts. The editor will say saved, but when I leave and reopen the draft, all my changes are gone.

The dashboard suddenly says I’m using 100% of my storage space. Before everything started bugging out, I still had roughly .7 GB of space left.

    Hello,

I totally feel your pain there, and I think all of your stressful bugs are likely coming from that storage space problem.

Since you had 0.7 GB of space left a couple of days ago before all of this started, a heavy automatic backup file or a large upload probably filled up that last bit of space suddenly. When a site hits 100% storage, the server locks down. This prevents WordPress from processing new images or saving your post drafts.

Have you tried looking into your backup plugin to see if there is anything stored locally instead of to the cloud? Deleting old local backups can free up massive space instantly.

If you have a caching plugin installed, clearing the cache can also help purge accumulated temporary files and get you back under the limit.

Give that a shot and let me know if it works!

I don’t have any backups or plugins of that nature. Plus, if I simply ran out of space, then I don’t know why images I uploaded a year ago — which were working at the time — are suddenly now also broken.

A member of the help team reached out via live chat and confirmed that some sort of automated migration might have broken my site. Unfortunately, this update was nearly 24 hours ago, and I have yet been given any updates from anyone on the team. I still can’t update or make any new posts to my site, which is frustrating.

Ah, I see where your frustrations coming from. Since you’re already working with a live agent, the best move is to let them handle the heavy lifting from here. They have the backend access to fix whatever the migration broke. Hopefully, they get back to you with a resolution very soon.

Hang in there, and I hope you’re back up and running shortly!
