Recovering domain name
-
How can I recover my domain name http://www.osteosurvey.org and migrate it to Bluehost? I think I might have asked to cancel it by error and I need that domain name for a study we are to start on Friday… Anyway to recover it?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi @osteosurvey, since domain was brand new when you cancelled, it should be released for repurchase within a few business days.
If you’d rather, we can try to restore it (which may be a bit faster in this case) so you can point it to Bluehost. The caveats: we’d need to re-charge you for the domain, and you would need to wait 60 days to transfer the registration there. It would still work though.
Let us know whether you’d like to wait it out or whether you want us to try to restore it for you.

Unfortunately, the domain name is still not available for purchase. Have you cancelled it?
It is my primary domain on bluehost. I cannot transfer it given it still seems to be locked with the current registrar.
The domain osteosurvey.org was registered within the past five days with another registrar (5288-am). You will need to wait 60 days before trying to transfer. Some registrars allow deleting the domain within 5 days of signup. If the losing registrar supports this, you may be able to delete the domain and signup for the domain here immediately. Check with the losing registrar (5288-am) for details.
Are you 5288-am? Is there anyway I can recover it without having to wait 60 days?

We allow you to cancel and essentially delete the domain within 2 days, which is what you’ve done. The deletion is not immediate, though. As I mentioned, it will be released for repurchase within a few (usually about 5) business days.
If we un-cancel it at this point it cannot be released for 60 days, but you will have an active domain that can be pointed to the new host and transferred later. If you’d like me to use that option, let me know right away.

I am sorry, I do not know what to do given I do not know what will happen. My main worry is my new site not been accessible anymore.
It is hosted on bluehost and I did the transfer before cancelling. It is the main host for my server. But given the link was broken, I created a new domain and this one is working. I am scarred that whatever we do, the whole thing breaks down.
If possible, but not essential, I want people to be able to access to the actual site (www.osteoresearch.org/OsteoSurvey) by using the address http://www.osteosurvey.org.
I am willing to do the transfer latter (in six months) but absolutely do not want to lose access to what I have done.

The actual link to get to on the bluehost server is:
/home2/osteosur/public_html/OsteoSurvey/

It is hosted on bluehost and I did the transfer before cancelling.
That won’t work, but you do have these two choices.
– wait a few more days for the domain to be released, then buy it through Bluehost
– restore the domain here so it will start working with Bluehost sooner. You would need to try the transfer itself again later.
Please let us know which sounds more appealing to you. I personally would recommend the second option in your case (if only because I can help more with that) but we need whether that’s what you want. :) Once the domain is in “pending delete” status this won’t be an option anymore and you’ll need to go with the first.

I would be very grateful if you would restore the domain name and we will transfer it another time. I will however need you to help me to link it to the new domain (as it was before I cancelled it). The change is that the entire site is now under the name http://www.osteoresearch.org/OsteoSurvey, could you redirect the name http://www.ostesurvey.org to that location?

@osteosurvey I was able to restore the domain for you. You can point it to Bluehost here:
https://wordpress.com/domains/manage/osteosurvey.org/name-servers/osteosurvey.orgSwitch off WordPress.com’s name servers and use Bluehost’s instead:
ns1.bluehost.com
ns2.bluehost.comThen give that a few hours to take effect. Since your site will be hosted with Bluehost, if you need help with the site, go here:
https://wordpress.org/supportIf you need help with the domain name itself, you can get support here. Cheers :)
