Recovering old websites from WordPress

I used to have a student website for my college internship portfolio, and now I am unable to get it back and need more assistance in recovering it and being able to update it. Is there any way to recover an old website from a username that is now invalid?

  • What is the URL of the site you’re trying to access?

    Here’s my old website:

    Home

I tried to get back into it, but now my old user setup is gone along with my original login.

Is there any way I can get all of this stuff back, or no?

  • The username that owns that site is not invalid. The only way a username can become invalid is if the person who owns that account, closes the account, and that would also delete any sites owned by the account. Both this site and the username that owns it are still active and working as they’re supposed to.

If you don’t remember the correct login details for that account, please see our account recovery process at https://en.support.wordpress.com/account-recovery/

That is the only way that we can give you access to that account.

I reiterate: I can NOT use my old username, because it is now invalid. Whatever happened, I can no longer use that account and I have not yet found a sufficient solution, so if possible, I would like to hear what can be done, please.

Furthermore, I have already tried recovering my account with the original activation link from two years ago, and your site is saying it cannot find my account anymore because the login information does not match.

This is what is happening, I do not know how to attach the screenshots for the relevant issues, and I do NOT know what else I can possibly do on my end that can help. So if this is all that you can offer me, then I will simply wait until you actually check anything for further assistance.

Thank you for what time and help you could offer.

  • Hi there,

I do not know how to attach the screenshots for the relevant issues

You can upload them to your Media Library and we’ll able to see them.

If you still have access to the email connected to that account, you can enter that email address in the password recovery form:

    https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword

If that doesn’t work, in order to regain access to a WordPress.com account, we’ll need one of the following things:

    * A transaction ID for any upgrades purchased for the account

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/transaction-id/

    * The WordPress.com account activation link, which we sent to your email address when you first registered with us.

For more information please read our Account Recovery guide:

    Thank you for the assistance.

Here are the snapshots of what I am encountering at the moment.

I have already tried account recovery, but encountered these issues instead. If there is anything else I can do, please tell me at the earliest convenience so that I may take the needed steps to transfer everything over to my new account.

  • On the form at https://en.support.wordpress.com/account-recovery/#account-recovery-form check “I don’t know my registered email or username.”
