Recurring Charge – don’t know what account or website it’s for
-
I have no idea what website I’m being charged for. I suspect it was an old website I made for real estate – bothellbesthomes.com, but when I put that website into the account recovery form, it says they don’t have that website. I’m getting charged and I have the transaction number but I don’t have a way to send an account recovery form because I don’t know what website it is. I don’t think it’s associated with the account I’m writing on this forum for, so I just don’t know what to do.

Hi @katelynkyle! This is a common situation and the transaction number you have is exactly what you need to sort it out.
Step 1: Check your purchases on the account you’re using now. Log in, click your profile icon in the top right, select “My WordPress.com Account,” then choose Purchases from the left menu. If the charge is tied to this account it will appear there even if you don’t see an active site.
Step 2: Try other email addresses you may have used. If you can’t locate the transaction in your billing history, the purchase was likely made with a different WordPress.com account. Try logging out and signing in with any other email addresses you may have used.
Step 3: Use the Account Recovery form. The Account Recovery form lets you prove ownership using a transaction ID, and you don’t need to be logged in to use it. You can find it at wordpress.com/support/account-recovery… your transaction number is one of the accepted proof fields.
Step 4: Contact support directly. Since community volunteers can’t access billing records, the WordPress.com support team at wordpress.com/support/contact can look up the account tied to your transaction ID directly.
Hope that gets it resolved quickly!

The simpliest solution: check those charges at https://wpchrg.wordpress.com/. Also note that domain is no longer registered and is available for sale.

I found the charge, but how do I stop it or request reimbursement? I don’t know what website it’s tied to and when I look at my credit cards attached to this account, they are both expired, so I don’t know how WP has access to this account to charge. I want to cancel the recurring payment and request reimbursement.

Also, when I look at all of the blogs managed on this account, they all say they’re “free” – so I really don’t understand how I have been being charged. I have been charged $100 yearly for 6 years.

I feel extremely frustrated with the support desk because they are AI and basically say they can’t help beyond basic tasks. I would love to be able to email or talk to someone on the phone.

Hello!
I can see how frustrating that would be, especially when you’re being charged for a website you can’t identify and don’t know which account it’s connected to.
If you have the Transaction ID for the charge, you can use it to locate the origin of the payment by entering the Transaction ID and charge details here: https://wordpress.com/support/billing-history/#on-your-credit-card-statement
If you need help finding your Transaction ID, you can follow the steps in this guide: https://wordpress.com/support/billing-history/#on-your-credit-card-statement
If you’re still unable to identify the account or website associated with the charge, please reach out to us at help@wordpress.com with the following details:
- Transaction ID
- Charge amount
- Charge date
- Last 4 digits of the card used (if available)
Once we receive those details, we can investigate the charge, identify the associated account or site, and help you regain access or discuss any available options.
We’ll be happy to take a closer look.
