Recycling URL for the same owner (not harvesting another owner's prior URL)
-
I deleted a blog before altering the URL. I’d like a new blog with the same URL (it matches my username, which I do not want to change), but the system claims that URL already exists (and I understand why it makes that claim). I am aware of the policy given here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/recycling-blog-names/ but that specifically applies to trying to harvest a URL previously used by another owner, not a URL previously used by me.
Essentially, I’d like to remove the “2” from the URL of my blog, but because I previously had a blog with that URL, I cannot do it without support intervention (that I am aware of).
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You aren’t the first to request this. Deleted blog URLs are not recycled, regardless of who registered and deleted them and no exceptions are made. http://en.support.wordpress.com/recycling-blog-names/
However, you can register another blog with a similar name. http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/
Or you can register a domain via a domain mapping upgrade and it will not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com address is.

Did you even read my post? I included the exact same link you did, and that page doesn’t say a single word about recycling URLs within a user account. The justification given is to prevent User A from hyjacking and mis-using a prior URL from User B. Refusal to restore a URL to a user who had it previously is rather an arbitrary policy, isn’t it? If you have to retain the record of its use to know not to issue it again, then restoring it is a pretty trivial database action.
None your “suggestions” actually correct the problem, since they won’t fix broken links, retain existing RSS subscriptions, &c.
If I was content to have different (if similar) URL, I wouldn’t have posted here in the first place.
“Timethief” is right. About as helpful as Windows Desktop Support from Mumbai — “please shut down, unplug, plug back in, then reboot”.
Oh well, I only wanted the blog to have a single entry explaining why hosted blogging was no longer valuable, anyway.

It’s great that you’re not overpersonalizing this.
It’s unfortunate that you didn’t read any of the three warnings before deleting the blog, because they all say the same thing as TT did. That neither you nor anyone else will be able to use that URL again.
Is the policy arbitrary? Indeed. Will an exception be made for you? No.

@jimjohnmarks
Of course, I read your post. Deleting a WordPress.com blog is not easily done. To prevent accidental or inadvertent deletion of blogs, there are multiple warnings given that blog deletion is permanent. Lastly, a verification link is sent in an email and must be clicked to delete a blog. If you clicked it and the blog was deleted it’s game over. http://en.support.wordpress.com/delete-site/I have been reading threads just like yours for over 7 years now wherein people take the same position and insist that Staff make an exception. What happens is that Staff repeat exactly what I said above. No exceptions are made.
