redirected the blog and now can only see a blank site

Hi, I have created a blog under fertilitenaturelle.wordpress.com and have today tried to redirect it to the domain I own called etrefertile.com (hosted by 1and1.es). At first it seemed to mostly work as I could see all the pages but the home page/landing page. Whereas the information on the landing page (the page itself hadn’t been given a name) was visible when the link was fertilitenaturelle.wordpress.com and the page could also be reached when clicking on “Acceuil” (“Home” in French) in the menu it was no longer visible once I redirected the blog, and I was getting a message saying “content not found” or something to that effect.
I then thought that by going to the dashboard and naming the page the same as the name on the menu (i.e. “Acceuil”) instead of leaving the name blank it would solve the issue but instead now when I enter “etrefertile.com” it only points to “http://etrefertile.com/defaultsite” which is a completely blank page so I have no idea what is going on there…. would appreciate any help at this point…
    Many thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Just to clarify, are you:

    1. Trying to point the domain http://etrefertile.com/ to your WordPress.com site?

    or

    2. Trying to point the domain http://etrefertile.com/ to a self hosted WordPress site (hosted with 1and 1)

    Sorry if that wasn’t clear.
I am trying to do your option 2: point the domain http://etrefertile.com/ to a self hosted WordPress site (hosted with 1and 1) .
I have updated the DNS for the domain in 1and1 and as I mentioned at first it seemed to work but now although when I go to “fertilitenaturelle.wordpress.com” it correctly goes to etrefertile.com the page itself is completely blank.

  • I am seeing the nameservers for etrefertile.com as still pointing to WordPress.com. You will need to log into your account at your domain registrar (which appears to also be 1and1) and set the nameservers to whatever values 1and1 has given you for their hosting servers.

    Does that make sense?

Not sure it makes sense to me since instructions to redirect a blog did say to do the opposite when I was working on it earlier, although after trying it seems to have corrected the problem, thanks so much!

Actually it hasn’t fixed the problem, it seemed to work there and then but now etrefertile.com only shows the 1and1 page saying that the domain has recently been registered and there is no site available, which makes sense as the nameservers on the domain registrar are pointing at their own servers, and there are no files there at all as all the information is on wordpress.
So shall I go back to directing the nameservers to wrodpress, which makes sense to me as the site should be pointing at the servers with the blog I would think, but then why the blank page as opposed to the blog??

The plot thickens. I have now gone through the process again as outlined http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/ (NS1.WORDPRESS.COM, NS2.WORDPRESS.COM and NS3.WORDPRESS.COM) and in store I have switched the primary domain to etrefertile.com.
The domain registrar shows that the DNS are pointing at wordpress (they are no longer pointing at their own server as I no longer get their default page when a domain is empty), but when going to etrefertile.com I now get a message saying server not found.
I have redirected sites to new domains many times and it has always been easy, and certainly NEVER has it been so incredibly frustrating. Since the blog is recent I am seriously thinking of trying another option than wordpress as I am losing patience with this I have to say.

I have also cleared the cache and restarted my computer just in case, to no avail so far

Seems it is all working again, I shall wait 24 hours in case but it seems I worked it out in the end
