Reducing image file sizes

I’ve been writing a blog for a few years but am a novice technically so haven’t paid much attention to my file usage. Most of the pics I’ve been uploading are 2-3MB (straight from Photo on Mac) and i’ve now run out of space on my free 3GB allowance (with about 2,100 pics).

I read using the scale function reduces the size of the images. I tried this on my posts and they now do show with smaller file sizes (about 100KB), but the 3GB usage isn’t being impacted. I’ve resized hundreds of pictures and it’s not making a dent. This article seemed to suggest the original is saved somewhere: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/reducing-the-size-of-images/ but don’t know if this is true or if it could be edited. I can’t figure out how to get down the overall usage.

I really don’t want to delete 2,000+ pics, resize, re-upload and re-insert. I’d also rather not pay the $25 for a business plan to get the plug-ins. Any ideas? Please help

    Thanks! Mike

That is the best solution (for at least some of your images) unless you upgrade to the Personal plan to double your storage capacity to 6GB. 3MB is an unnecessary image file size for a blog/website and ideally images should be optimized for the web before uploading them.
