Refund Request/How to get what I really want (and what was advertised!)?

Hi, I just (i.e. within the hour) tried starting a website that would be under the URL myname.com (not speaking literally). I paid 99 dollars for a premium site, as the receipt shows–but the site created was myname.wordpress.com–exactly what I was paying to avoid. I clicked a bottom to request a refund, but all this did was open a link to the normal blog writer interface, with no obvious suggestions how actually to get a refund. I’ve received no emails or any other sign that my refund request has registered. This is a frustrating experience–like I’ve been trapped on a one-way street.

I am willing to pay 99 dollars annually if indeed I can have a personal website that does not parade its connection to the formatting firm–viz. WordPress.

Also, strangely again, I received notice that the payment would renew itself not in a year, but rather 11 months.

  • First off, I am happy to help you with a refund if that is what you would like. No problem there.

But first let’s see if I can’t clear a few things up for you. After that, if WordPress.com works out for you, great! And if not, the refund will be forthcoming.

but the site created was myname.wordpress.com–exactly what I was paying to avoid.

Once you purchase WordPress.com Premium, you get a free custom domain name. however, you still have to go through the process of choosing and registering that domain. To do so, simply log into your WordPress.com site’s dashboard, click on Store–>Domains, enter the domain that you would like to have in the “add a domain” box and click the “add domain” button. Then simply follow the instructions that appear to register your domain.

Also, strangely again, I received notice that the payment would renew itself not in a year, but rather 11 months.

We auto renew domain related upgrades 30 days before their expiration date. Why? Since letting a domain expire means you may not be able to get it back in the future, we want to ensure that everything is taken care of in advance. We do send out notification emails before charging your card, as we try not to surprise anyone. Your expiration date will always be 12 months from the registration date.

Also, you can turn off auto-renew from the “My Upgrades” page:

Please let me know if you have further questions or if anything is unclear.
