Regain site after expiration

  Anyone knows how long can you regain your website and who can we talk about the issue so I know if the files and designs of the site are still there? I regain the domain but I can’t have access to the site. The domain company told me to wait for the domain to be fully expired and now that I have the domain I can’t reach my website
