Does word press have the ability to show a registration front page so that only people who register with an email address etc can get access?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Anthony,
If you change your site’s Privacy Settings to make your site private, that will limit access to your site. You can then invite users to view your site. (They’ll need to register a new WordPress.com account to view the site if they don’t have one already.)
Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

Thank you, Rachel, Happiness Engineer. What I had hoped is that the site would remain open to search engines but that when people tired to access it they would have to register so that I can see who and what they are.
Also, it does not sound ideal that they should have to open a WordPress Account – I’m sure this will put most people off. They simply won’t be bothered with the extra leg. Looks like I can’t do what I want?

Hi Anthony,
WordPress.com isn’t designed for you to set up your site that way. The only other way to restrict your content is to use password-protection on your posts and pages, which wouldn’t require your visitors to have WordPress.com accounts.
That way, visitors would have to enter a password to view each post or page that you password-protected. You could set up a Contact Form to invite visitors to contact you for the password, which would allow you to gather the information you’d like to know about them.
If you’d like to set up something more than that, you might be better off with a self-hosted WordPress site using the free software from WordPress.org. That way you’d have other options to customize how your site works. We have more about the differences between WordPress.org and WordPress.com if that sounds interesting to you.
Please let me know if I can do anything more to help!
