Having completed a wordpress site for a client, I was asked to publish it and it then points to a completely different web site in another country. What can I do?

It depends on what they want to accomplish.
You can either purchase the Site Redirect upgrade, which will point all links on WordPress.com to a different site, or you can move an existing custom domain on WordPress.com to another hosting provider.
