Reinstating deleted user account

  I’m helping set up a private WordPress site for a group that includes a number of people who are new to WordPress. I added a separate personal WordPress account to the site to test out the invitation process and permission options so I could document the way the emails would look, etc.

  I then deleted the account because I didn’t plan to use it to post to this site (also it’s for my food blog and named accordingly, which I thought would be confusing).

  I realized now that to subscribe to new posts with my personal email, I need to add the account back as a viewer since it’s a private site.

  I deleted the account after I added it. I deleted the invitation too, so it wouldn’t be counted with the invites the site leaders are trying to track. I can’t send a new invitation because it says the username (kitchentourist) is ‘already a member’. I can’t accept the email invitation because it says ‘that invite is not valid’ (probably because I deleted it from the admin view). I can’t resend the original invitation because, obviously, I deleted it.

  Is there any way to purge this account completely and start over or reinstate it? I’m not the original owner/admin account, so if it’s a permissions issue related to that I am happy to refer it to that person.

  Well! I found the solution myself, it’s a confusing mix of the WP-Admin “user” page where you can view invitation status and all users with the author/editor/admin permissions and the “people” page, which it turns out is the only place where you can see the “viewers” and remove them permanently if you need to add them with different permissions. Not a helpful workflow at all.

  Here’s the new people page (Calypso interface??) where you can find, and remove, viewers – but not switch their roles.

  So yeah, not loving the division of info with this. Also would like to be able to find these tickets through the WordPress login instead of going to my email to find the link to this ticket.

  @emilybarney thanks for the feedback. We’re actively developing on Calypso here, so let’s focus on that for the moment. I’ve found if you want to promote a viewer to some other role, you would just re-add them. I’ve filed an issue on this anyway, though, to see if we can make that clearer.

  I was not able to duplicate that part. It shouldn’t act that way if you already removed them. If you can send more details there, that’ll help.
