Related post thumbnails now portrait and stretched instead of former landscape

  I don’t know when this started happening, but I think it was likely recently. I have not made any changes to settings or the images involved, but all ‘Related’ post thumbnails are now showing in a stretched portrait format. They used to show up in a landscape format. I tried installing the Regenerate Thumbnails plugin and had it regenerate all, but that did not help, so I think something basic has changed for the worse that I don’t have any control over.
