Release of domain name

  I signed up with hosting with wordpress.com instead or wordpress.org. I’m going to use WordPress.org but I’m hosting my site elsewhere so I can use the plugin features of WordPress. I cancelled my wordpress.com account today for a refund and domain release. How long does it take so I can purchase the domain on the other hosting site?

  Hi there,

  When you cancel a newly registered domain name, it can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks for that domain name to be released so it can be registered again elsewhere. (We also can’t guarantee that it will become available again for you to register somewhere else.)

  I’d recommend checking with your new host to see if they have any features that will notify you when the domain becomes available again, or you can check with them on a regular basis until the domain is available to register there.
