Remove an admin – delete user profile without ‘delete’ option showing

    I hired someone to help set up my website that I need to fire. However I cannot remove their admin profile and I desperately need help!

    Please help me remove him. I am worried he will block my access if I fire him via the vendor service that connected me with him before I block him. The vendor service has agreed to cancel the contract and refund me once I have changed whatever is needed to block his access.

    The contractor is set up as an admin that I cannot remove. The only admin that seems to be removable is mine. His profile is shown as ‘Administrator’ – when I hover over this, the only options I see are ‘Edit’ and ‘View’.

    My profile also has an ‘Administrator’ role, and when I hover over this it shows ‘Edit’, ‘Delete’, ‘View’, ‘Send password reset’.

    Hi there,

    We can’t help directly because we don’t host your site on our WordPress.com managed hosting. As a result we don’t have the ability to take a closer look at your site.

    Instead your host uses the open-source variant of the WordPress platform which functions differently than what we offer here on WordPress.com. Specifically, we use a custom user management system on WordPress.com (for enhanced security) that does not have the options you describe, so we are not able to advise you on this question for that reason.

    The good news is that as long as you have access to the server control panel through your host, it is usually possible to manage your site users from the MySQL database. I am not familiar with the specific steps, but the folks in this forum are more familiar with the variant of WordPress you are using for your site and in the best position to help:

    Also for an added bit of security you may want to consider exporting your content and importing to your account here at WordPress.com. This will at least ensure that you have some kind of backup in place to help avoid any worst case scenario: https://wordpress.com/support/import/import-a-sites-content/
