Removing /wordpress from domain name

    I tried to copy both the index.php and .htaccess file from within my wordpress directory to the root directory, after removing the /wordpress extension from my site address and altering the code within the index.php file from ‘/wp-blog-header.php’ to ‘/wordpress/wp-blog-header.php’. I uploaded both files to the root directory and got this error: There has been a critical error on this website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.

    Hey @annebrent2015, the site isn’t hosted here with us, but it sounds like you’ve got a couple of issues compounded. I’d recommend getting a recent backup restored, or otherwise undoing your changes. Then use this info for changing your url:
    https://wordpress.org/support/article/changing-the-site-url/
