Renamed my blog, but the old name is hanging around!
-
Hello,
I have renamed my blog. The new name appears on the top border of my browswer view, But anything I try to publish seems to continue to be publised using the old name. How can I correct this?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

This is the URL of the blog linked to your username http://technophoberelief.wordpress.com/
This is that blog’s site title technophoberelief and it can be changed at any time here > Settings > General
-
The original URL was htp://conventionalwisdomdebunked.wordpress.com
The new url is
http://technophoberelief.wordpress.com -
All I see on the Settings > General page is the title I want to use.
That is correct. But that URL just shows the default content.I just thought of trying to clear my temporary internet files and cookies.
Sometimes it is the browswer hanging on to things that can casue what I am experiencing. -

To clarify my earlier post, with my new name showing up on the top
border of my browser window, anything that I publish is going to the URL associated with the old name. Both URL’s seem to exist. I would think that once I changed the name, the old URL would cease to exist.Shouldn’t the folder for that URL be removed from your server and the reference to the URL beginning with the fiolder name be removed from the domain name servers?
-
When you changed from http://conventionalwisdomsdebunked.wordpress.com/ you did not choose to delete the original.
You can do that now following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/delete-site/
-
I saw that page earlier. I interpreted that to mean that everything I did up to this point would get deleted. So, what you are suggesting is that this will only delete all references to the old name. Will everything I have done with the new name get transfered automatically?
-
If you delete http://conventionalwisdomsdebunked.wordpress.com/ it will only delete http://conventionalwisdomsdebunked.wordpress.com/
http://technophoberelief.wordpress.com/ will be unaffected.
If there is any content at http://conventionalwisdomsdebunked.wordpress.com/ that you want to have on http://technophoberelief.wordpress.com/ you should export/import the content via the Tools section of the blogs’ Dashboards first.
-
Delete is forever and then search engines run into a blank wall when visitors try and find you – my opinion – transfer what your want to save to your new blog (Export / Import) – then delete or set to Private the Posts on your old blog – then leave a single Post on the front page with a “I have Moved” then have a link to your new site – then you have a test site some time in the future if you want – while search engines take a few months to update where content is – I moved over two years ago and Google still digs up some old links

Thank you everyone. I just started with wordpress yesterday. So, the serach engines could not have found the old site yet. Even if by chance, a robot just happended to see it, there is nothing of significance on there. I have no interest in that name for the future. so, I will permanently delete it. It was good to go through this experience. I have learned asomething that may help in the future. Glad to see how fast the responces came.

OK, my old blog name is gone. I didn’t bother to do the export/import. there just wasn’t much to be concerned with. So, I will just redo the stuff.
My new name still exists on the web. But I don’t seem to be able to access it’s dashboard. What am I still missing?

barrymol is not a user on http://technophoberelief.wordpress.com/
The blog was registered with a different username, and you need to be logged in with that name.
-
That is the name I used. I don’t have two accounts. When I did log in just prior to deleting the old blog name, I did see this name appear in the top border. It’s just that everything I did publish continued to show up in the old domain.
-
http://technophoberelief.wordpress.com/ was registered to a different username and email address, and confirmed via that email address.
barrymol is not the username that you registered with it.
If you have lost access to that WordPress.com account, please visit https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword and click “Need More Help?” if necessary.

I’m not sure about what happened or what I did to cause it. The name I used when registering did not exist before, but does now. It is interesting that what appears with that domain seems to be the default stuff that a new domain would have. So, if it belongs to someone other than me, they haven’t done anything yet.
I this domain does in fact belong to someone else, then it is theirs to do what ever they please. If it is mine, but somehow, possibly a corrupt piece of data, it got assigned to someone else and they ignore it, then it will be orphaned.
I don’t really need to concern myself with what is going on. Since this is a new domain and I haven’t done anything with it other than to learn, I just simply created another one with a variation that will mean the same thing. Then, I will move on.
