  I purchased my Domain several years ago from Wild West Domains. I have moved my site to wix.com and am trying to renew my domain and link it to my wix site. Once I had to renew my premium membership and manage my domain through wordpress and have it point to my wix site. I am trying to avoid this by doing two things.

  1. Purchase (renew) my domain independent of WordPress.com

  2. COnnect it to my Wix site.

  Hey there,

  I checked with our registrar and steviewalkerwebb.com is now in a redemption period. You can still renew your domain through us, but it is now a more expensive and complicated process to do so. Our registrar charges an $80 late renewal fee in addition to the $26 we charge to renew the domain. The good news is that this is still a chance of reclaiming the domain through this option.

  Your other option is to wait until the redemption period is over so that the domain becomes available for registration again. Domains are usually in redemption for approximately 80 days, but with this option, you run
  the risk of someone else jumping in front of you to purchase the domain before you get the chance.

  Please let me know if you want to proceed with paying the late renewal fee in the attempt to reclaim the domain name. This option is also time sensitive because the domain can be auctioned off to an expired domain bidder.

  WordPress is an smart and sharp company. 5 Years ago when I purchased my domain through GoDaddy and connected it with you as my host site you knew that once it expired you should grab it. So for the past four years i have been paying for premium membership just so that you could point to wix where I’ve moved my hosting. So I’m paying for premium membership here and there. WELL let me tell you. I’m DONE paying you hundreds of dollars to POINT to another page for me. I’ve decided to NOT renew my premium membership with you. SO NO THANKS going to remake my site completely and purchase a completely new domain name. Be well as you continue to SCAM people. DEUCES.

  Hi Stevie,

  Sounds like there is some confusion here. I checked your account with us and you have never paid for premium membership with us before – only the $26 for the domain since 2014 (3 years). Also, it has only been a year since it has been required to have a plan with your domain with us, but you can get the personal plan for $36 instead of the premium plan.

  However, since you have purchased the plan before our update, you still only have to pay $26. Due to ICANN regulations, you have to pay the $80 fee – it’s not a fee that we personally charge you, it’s what we have to pay in order to retrieve the domain for you.

  Did you register your domain with us 3 years ago because we never grab domains during redemption period – the user has to register the domain with us.

  So, if you’re not going to get your domain out of redemption to avoid the fee, just make sure you keep an eye on it once it is released from redemption because there are domain squatters who may be interested in purchasing it before you have the opportunity to.
