Renew Domain

  I got an email regarding domain renewal. Missed getting it done before it expired. The email I got indicates it’s still possible, if I click the ‘Renew…’ button. But when I click the button I don’t see it. What do I need to do?

  I had not seen that article. I read it and now understand the situation. I’m pretty sure the group will not want to pay to redeem the domain, and the redemption period may have passed anyway. If the domain has been released, would it show up when I look at possible options? If it isn’t showing up, it looks like that means one of the back-order companies might have purchased it. Is that correct? So I guess the help I need at this point is to determine if that domain is now owned by another entity.

  Hi there,

  There is no way to determine if your domain is backorderd by someone else.
  Domains are usually in redemption period for 80-90 days before it’s available for general public to register.

  If your domain is still under redemption period you can get it back by paying redemption fee which is something like $80 in addition to the $26 renewal fee.
  (add modlook to this thread if you want to get it back from redemption period by paying extra fee)

  If your domain has passed the redemption period then you register it back if no one has purchased it.

  Always make sure you have auto-renew option enabled to avoid losing control of your domain.

  Hi there,

  I’ve confirmed your domain has already been released at this time, and in fact is showing as available if I search for it at My Site ->Domains, so you should be able to register it again.

  You should be aware, though, that it’s no longer possible to buy only a domain on WordPress.com, so you will need to buy a plan first. You can buy the cheapest plan, Personal, via My Site ->Plans, and then you’ll be able to register the domain for free as part of the plan.
