Renew domain and website, not upgrade
-
I have had an auto-renew message about my blog, YesKillieFans.wordpress.com which uses yeskilliefans.com – Please see message below.
the problem is that I don’t wish to renew for $90 upgrade, I would like to renew at the domain-only rate which I think is $18 pa ?
I can’t see how to do this within Dashboard / Store / My Upgrades screenthanks

WordPress.com Premium for yeskilliefans.com will be renewed automatically
WordPress.com Premium on your site “Yes Killie Fans” is about to be automatically renewed in 60 days.
This upgrade includes all the WordPress.com upgrades as well as a free domain, with 40% savings.
You will be charged $99.00 for this renewal in 60 days, on February 9, 2014.
You don’t have to do anything — this is just a reminder.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If all you want to renew is the domain mapping upgrade and not the other upgrades then $18. will do that. However, you purchased a premium bundle of upgrades so you need to clarify whether or not you want the other upgrades to be renewed.

I’m not seeing any upgrades associated with the account you are posting from. That would account for your trouble in canceling/renewing the upgrade.
Could you have a second WordPress.com account that you used when you purchased the upgrade?

Thanks timethief and rootjosh for replying.
I used my own account under which I have several blogs, but this is the only one with Premium upgrade. I can’t see how to cancel the renewal that the email from WordPress informed me of. I would go with the $18 option to have domain only, buts its very confusing as I cant see how to do this. timethief – I would clarify this if I could see how.The only option seems to be to allow the auto-renewal to happen and then cancel it. But….I think that won’t give me the $18 domain and I’m worried it will cancel the whole thing.
rootjosh- I don’t have another account. My yeskilliefans blog shows up under my account and I can manage it and access its dashboard from there. There just isn’t an option relating to renewals as far as I can see. -
The account is about 9 months old – might you have used that account to set up the blog then added your current account as an Admin to that blog?
staff-ozmodiar could look up the owner of yeskilliefans.com – perhaps send an email to that account – but you should also be receiving an email to the account that owns the upgrade

Auxclass has tracked it down for you. The account he links to is the one that owns both the site and the upgrade.
If his post doesn’t jog your memeory, I can indeed send an email to the address on file for that account.
Let me know.

auxclass, rootjosh – thanks v much. I’ve managed to log on and cancel the auto-renew. I had forgotten that I’d used another account because it was also linked from my main account.
Can I ask a follow up question ? Now that I’ve cancelled the auto-renewal, will WordPress prompt me prior to expiry of the domain to give me a chance to renew the domain (not the premium upgrade)?
thanks -

You be welcome
A note on the auto renew & notice for manual renew. A while back some of the notifications were broken, so I strongly suggest that you put down a reminder someplace just in case.

A while back some of the notifications were broken,
Auxclass is correct, there was an issue with that. However, it is my understanding that it had been fixed. And I haven’t heard any reports about it recently.
That having been said, never a bad idea to remind yourself. I use google calendar with one of my gmail accounts. It will both email and txt you a reminder if you want it to.

I use plain old fashioned one page per month paper calendar – but – stuff happens, email goes to spam, people get the notice while on vacation and “I will do this when we get home” – and the list goes on.
Bottom line, don’t even trust yourself!!
