How do I report a copyright violation if I’m just a viewer and not the copyright holder or an authorized agent? I have information about the platform where the original content was posted, but the creator doesn’t know their work has been plagiarized

Legally, a platform cannot process a formal copyright or DMCA takedown notice unless it is submitted directly by the copyright holder or an authorized agent under penalty of perjury. Since you are a viewer, you cannot file a formal complaint yourself, but the best course of action is to notify the original creator immediately so they can defend their work. Send them a quick message with a direct link to the plagiarized content alongside a link to their original post. You can also let them know that if the offending site is hosted here on WordPress, they can easily get it removed by filling out the official, public WordPress.com DMCA Takedown Form. In the meantime, if the plagiarized site is impersonating the creator’s identity or acting as an automated spam scraper, you can use the general ‘Report’ flags on the site to alert platform moderators to look into it for Terms of Service violations!
