Republishing a blog post and Facebook/Twitter links.

  I want to republish a blog post (from last Halloween-time) and so I rescheduled it. It has reappeared on the blog but not on Facebook and Twitter nor did the “followers” of the blog get notification. Do those things not happen when a post is republished? Do I have to do the Facebook/Twitter links manually??? Do followers not receive an updated notification when something is reposted? Do reposts not appear in the WordPress reader??? Or did I just do it all wrong??

  Hi there,

  Can you send me a link the blog post itself? It will help me to take a look at it to see what’s going on.

  You mentioned that you rescheduled the blog post. Did you change the date on the blog post you published before, or did you create a new post and copy the content over? If you edit the post and change the date, it won’t be sent out to your followers or to Facebook/Twitter again. That only happens when you first publish a post. If you want it to go out to all of your followers again, it’s best to create a new post and copy the content over so you can publish it again fresh.

  Thanks, Rachel — That’s what I needed to know. I wanted to repost a Halloween series so I changed the publication date (which took it out of sequence from last year too). Wrong. I now see the error of my ways and will cut and paste and create a new post. Makes perfect and simple sense, which I don’t have sometimes:) Here’s a link to one of the posts in the series http://wp.me/pfwMd-18b. All is well and I thank you so much for your help!

  Yep, changing the publication date is the culprit here! But you can still manually send out those posts on Facebook and Twitter, if you’d like.

  And in the future, if you create a new post to re-publish an older post, that will send it out to all of your followers as usual. :) Let me know if I can help with anything else!
