Repurposing old articles but keeping their original publish date

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello WordPress staff!

I have an old article that I’d like to publish to my blog, but I’d want to keep the original publishing date (from 2013). Would my blog followers still be notified of this article/post? Or would they only receive a notification if it’s published with a new date?

Looking forward to hearing more! – Frank

please ignore the blog that’s mentioned in the initial comment. That’s an outdated one so pay no attention to it!

  • Hi there,

Yes it is possible to “backdate” an article by setting any date you wish in the post settings on the right (when you create or edit your post) but you will want to keep in mind that if you backdate posts like this, people following your site in the WordPress.com Reader will never see them, as the Reader displays most recent posts based on their timestamp.

However, people who subscribe to email updates on your site (instead of following you in the WordPress.com Reader) will be notified if you publish posts regardless of wether they use the current date or a past date.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
