Resetting site after errors

This may not be something you can help with but I figured I’d ask just in case you can. I’ve inherited this site and its management over the last year or so but it’s not my job or anything like that, I mainly just upload content and keep it moderated. The site is built using WordPress, and hosted separately, something has gone wrong with it which doesn’t allow me to login to the admin side of WordPress. Whilst attempting various fixes the site is also no longer accessible. It was probably due a fresh build at some point as it was extremely dated. This obviously would have been easier if I could access the admin side to take a backup (none has been taken for a long time). I have downloaded all of the content via FTP and I’m basically looking to now scrap it all and build it back up over time using WordPress. I have some limited web dev experience from college but I’m just trying to wrap my head around what I need to do to wipe it all clean and reinstall WordPress on the domain and start again with a blank slate. Is it as simple as deleting all of the files and reinstalling it? I see there’s a way to install WordPress via my hosts cpanel, is that the best bet after wiping it?

Because WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two entirely separate entities, we cannot access files or data for sites that are hosted elsewhere, so WordPress.com staff can only assist with sites that are hosted on our servers.
