Restore deleted content

Hi. The above site was hosted on a different platform but I used WP for content management. Until today, I could see the content on the WP app. I wanted to transfer the content to a new, WordPress hosted site, so I created a new WordPress site, “exported” the content from the old site, and then attempted to import the content from the old site to the new one. When I tried that, the export file turned out to be empty. Moreover, when I logged back into the WP app, the old site no longer shows up in my navigation pane. Unfortunately, I let the account on the 3rd party hosting site expire, and they’ve deleted the site.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi, The importer needs the old site to be online to copy the content to the new one. So, since your old site was offline, the importer couldn’t copy anything.

    Now, you have two options.

    1. Contact your host and ask them for a backup of your site or if they can temporarily restore it so that you can perform the export/import process.

    2. Use the Internet Archive (http://web.archive.org/) to find a cached version of your old site and manually copy the contents to your new site.

If you have any other questions, just let me know, and I’ll be happy to help.
