resurrecting a website after 18 months

  • Unknown's avatar

I had a website through WordPress called vitalfatburner.com. I closed it out about 18 months ago and would like to get it back up and running, hopefully the pages are intact and I can still utilize my blogs etc.

I am not technical at all so if someone could explain to me in simple lay man terms what steps I need to take to do this, I would be so appreciative.

    Thank you.

  • Hi there,

The domain, vitalfatburner.com, has never been connected to any site on WordPress.com, so you were using the open source WordPress software for that site.

Looking at historical data for your domain at https://securitytrails.com/domain/vitalfatburner.com/history/a, you used to have that domain registered with Enom.com, but there’s no way to know where you had it hosted. I suggest you check old emails, receipts and bank statements to find out whoever you were paying for hosting the site.

That said, it’s highly unlikely that host will still have a copy of your site. Most hosting providers do not keep site backups indefinitely, but delete them once a hosting plan expires, which means unless you kept your own backups of your site, the content is now gone.

It does look like there might be some old snapshots of your site saved in the Wayback Machine, so you might be able to recover at least some of your content there, but you’ll have to manually copy-paste it into new posts and pages on a new site once you’ve set that up.

If you want to set up the new site here with us at WordPress.com, you can created a new site at https://wordpress.com/start/site/ – select any of our paid plans to register your domain again, as it does appear to be available for registration.
