Retrieving a domain name that expired
-
Hi WordPress team,
I used to have an (old) account on WordPress.com and a domain name associated to it. My domain name expired a couple of months ago and I deleted my account after this.
Now, I would like to retrieve this domain name. It’s very unlikely that someone else took it in the meantime as it was very specific.
Can you help me for this ?
Thanks for your help,

Have you checked if the unnamed domain is currently available?? If so you should be able to register it free for the first year when you purchase an annual plan.

Hey,
Thanks for your reply.
The domain name is marked as unavailable. But from what I’ve been told, since the expiration is recent, this doesn’t necessarily indicates that it has been “taken” and used by somebody else.
I would be happy to chat with someone from WP to confirm this.

Remember that once your domain expires, it can be unavailable for up to 90 days. Once it goes back on the market, anyone can register it. You should never allow a domain to expire unless you are fully done with it and never want to use it again.
When a domain registration expires, recovering it can be difficult and expensive. This guide explains what happens when a domain expires or is actively canceled and how you can restore your domain. Thanks for this piece of information. My domain name might be in the redemption period at this point in time.
Given that I deleted my associated WordPress account, any idea on how to claim it back with the redemption fee ?
Thanks !

Hi there!
I don’t see any domains currently or previously registered on this (@ninjasilly299dcf32b0) WordPress.com account. Could you share the domain name so that we can look it up?
If you have access to the WordPress.com account where you used to own the domain, you can also log into that account and reply here so that we can review that account.

Hi, thanks for your reply.
I used an old account that I have deleted since then. The domain name was: http://www.repairmyrib.com
Can you let me know if there’s any possibility to use it again and what the process for that ?
Thank you,
Erwan

Thanks for sharing the domain name. It looks like the domain was canceled, and the WordPress.com account was closed over 30 days ago. The account has been purged, so it’s no longer possible to restore it.
As for the domain, it’s currently in a stage called pendingDelete. We can’t restore it anymore. However, the good news is it’ll be available for new registration in about a week.
You can try registering the domain at least once every day so that you can be the first to register it when it’s available.

You’re welcome! Please remember to try every day (even multiple times, if possible). Anyone can register the domain again when it’s released, so you’d want to be the first person to register it. :)
