Revising and moving our URL

We at Booktown Books have the website, but it is funky and way out of date. We need an info website that tells about our store. We are a co-operative bookstore with 9 dealers. We do not need a shopping cart. I’m contacting you to find out what it costs to build a renewed website that I can make changes to myself once it has been created, however, I do not write code nor am I particularly technically inclined. My personal website is with a different host,, but I am interested in putting it in the hands of a less expensive host. I can make changes to it such as what books are on special or if we get in a new dealer, etc and we are looking for something like that without the shopping cart but with info about our dealers and our store.

  • Hi there,

WordPress.com is designed as a do-it-yourself website building platform, so the answer to your question, “what it costs to build a renewed website that I can make changes to myself once it has been created”, is nothing, as building websites is not a service we offer.

We provide you with a modified version of the open source WordPress software, free hosting, and optional paid extra features, so that you can set up your own site on our service. No coding knowledge is needed to do this.

You can find a detailed overview of how everything works at https://learn.wordpress.com/

And if you have any questions about something, we’re happy to help you here in the forum, or if you upgrade to a paid plan, via live chat and email support.

I can make changes to it such as what books are on special or if we get in a new dealer, etc and we are looking for something like that without the shopping cart but with info about our dealers and our store.

Something like this is possible even on our free plan. I’d use static pages with dealer info, and use the blog feature and publish blog posts for updates like specials or new dealers. If you use a theme that supports featured content you can even use the theme’s built-in slider to then highlight posts you want on your site’s front page.

If you’d prefer to hire someone to build a site for you, you can look at a directory of WordPress freelancers like https://jetpack.pro/, or you can go through a service like Upwork.
