Reviving a dead wordpress website

I had an active wordpress blog with a .com domain hosted by BlueHost. Unfortunately, I got so busy I forgot to renew February 18th of this year. I am wondering how and if I can revive this website, including my old blog posts.

I logged in to WordPress, but of course now my site is a WordPress blog, not a .com website, and it only includes the posts I created before upgrading to .com status. Is there any way to revive my site to what it was before as a .com site? Can I renew the site by paying the fee I missed?

Thanks in advance for the help!

  • Hi Patricia,

You’ll need to contact Bluehost support to ask if they still have a backup of your site on their system. While the Jetpack connection for your site to WordPress.com allowed you to manage that site from here, the data itself was never on our servers, so we don’t have a way to restore it.

If Bluehost no longer has your data, and you didn’t keep your own backups on your site, the only other thing you can try is check if the Internet Archive has a snapshot of your site. Then you should at least be able to manually copy-pasted your content from there into new posts and pages on your WordPress.com site.
