"Save as" window in Windows to download

    Hello rescuers.

    I’m not a WordPress professional.

    I would like to know how to put a button to download PDF files on my website with WordPress with the function that opens the “Save as” window in Windows (to choose how and where to save the file) and not open the PDF file in another tab of the browser.

    Can someone help me?

    Hi there,

    Actually this is something we’re not able to help with I’m afraid. To explain, the ability to view a PDF directly in the browser is something that is controlled by the Browser itself.

    Not all browsers do this in the same way, but in Chrome (the browser I use most) PDFs are opened in a new tab by default, and there is no “click to download” option instead. This is controlled by Chrome, and we don’t have anything on our end that can change that I’m afraid. The behavior may be different if you use Firefox or Internet Explorer/Edge, but similar to Chrome, the way those browsers handle PDFs is beyond our control.

    I know this is not the answer you were hoping for, but I hope this explanation helps shed light on why PDF tend to open in a tab in your browser.
