Saved wordpress site, bluehost domain
-
Hi, I purchased a personal site through wordpress and hosting through bluehost. I then cancelled my monthly payments to WordPress because the web developer said I had ‘double hosted’ and he needed me to cancel my wordpress so he could work on my site. He did a terrible, terrible job and I’d like to take matters into my own hands. My site is still saved here, do I need to purchase the theme so I can use it? Or do I just link it to my domain?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
The site you have with us, https://sonicrealmspodcast.wordpress.com/, is completely different from your Bluehost site, http://www.sonicrealmspodcast.com/
The WordPress.com site is free – you had bought a Personal Plan for that site in January, but that plan had been cancelled and refunded two weeks later.
You’re not paying us anything for the Bluehost site. You’re paying Bluehost to host it, and if you cancel your hosting plan with them, they’ll take that site offline and delete all content that is on it.
If sonicrealmspodcast.wordpress.com contains all the content you want, you can just carry on with it. If you want to connect your domain to that site you’ll need to purchase a plan again so you have access to the domain mapping upgrade, but otherwise you don’t have to buy anything else in order to use it.

Thank you for your response. On bluehost, I can buy and install wordpress themes, right? Can I buy the theme that I made my wordpress site on and somehow import it to the bluehost domain?
I’m mainly looking to get the “wordpress” removed from the url, while still using wordpress tools. If I have this right, there are two ways I can go about doing this, correct me if I’m mistaken:
1. Pay a wordpress subscription and do everything through the wordpress site, even though it (sonicrealmspodcast.com) is being hosted on bluehost. If I pay wordpress to have the “wordpress” removed, would I still need bluehost? Or would wordpress host for me in that instance?
2. Buy a wordpress theme on bluehost, install it, and use their editor to customize it.
Am I understanding this correctly? Thanks!

Your site is currently using the Ixion theme, which is one of our free themes. You can download the self-hosted version of that theme for free as well, and use it on your Bluehost site. You’ll find the download link in the bottom of the sidebar on the theme support page:

1. If you buy a plan from us, it will be for the WordPress.com site, http://sonicrealmspodcast.wordpress.com/ which is completely separate from your Bluehost site. So the site will be hosted by us. The plan will allow you to connect your existing domain to the WordPress.com site using domain mapping – that’s the upgrade you had and then again cancelled.
In this case you won’t need to pay Bluehost for hosting, but you’ll still need to pay them to renew the domain each year, as they are your domain registrar.
2. Correct. You can pay Bluehost for hosting and use your domain there. Then you can install the self-hosted version of the theme you currently have with us. To manage the site you can either log into the WP-Admin dashboard directly, or you can access it via My Sites on WordPress.com – the Jetpack plugin you have installed on the Bluehost site gives you that ability.
