seamless domain transfer with email forwarding

  I have a domain registered with a 1and1 hosted package with email addresses forwarded to gmail. I would like to transfer that domain to a WordPress.com site and cancel my 1and1 package. 1and1 states the authorization unlock could take 24 hours. What is the best way to do this to prevent loosing any email or delaying any email coming through during the process?

  Hi there,

  First, you won’t be able to transfer your domain to us as we’re not able to accept incoming domain transfers. That means you’ll need to keep the domain registered with 1and1 and map it here, as it appears you’ve already done.

  It looks like you’ve set up email forwarding, but you haven’t yet confirmed it. If you already have hosted email with 1and1 you can connect that to your domain instead by adding their MX records to your domain’s DNS. You can find instructions to do that here:
