Hello there,
Many thanks for reaching out.
Are you able to confirm the URL of the website that you need assistance with please?
Generally speaking, you should remove any plugins that are doing the same thing – (Really Simple SSL, and Auto-Install Free SSL plugin). This should remove the 504, which is a loading error.
Depending on where the site is hosted – installing an SSL certificate would be facilitated by the hosting provider.

Or who’s the host on WordPress? I’m the host, trying to figure out how to get a free ssl certificate and installing it.

Hi there,
Host? Meaning where I got WordPress?
Yes, and in this case, I would reach out to Namecheap regarding this issue, as that is your hosting provider based on what I am seeing on whois.
https://www.namecheap.com/help-center/live-chat/
Our community forum provides assistance to WordPress.com hosted sites and we are unable to directly assist you in this issue because we do not have direct access to your site and account. However, Namecheap should be able to look into what is going on and help you. For the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org, please check out:
The good news is that because your host uses the open-source veresion of the WordPress platform (which functions differently than what we offer here on WordPress.com), help is available at the forums here:
https://wordpress.org/support/forum/how-to-and-troubleshooting/
The folks in the open-source forum are more familiar with these issues and are in the best position to help. I hope this points you in the right direction.
